华中科技大学坚持“发展高科技、实现产业化”的方针和“育人为本，三足鼎立”的办学思想，在全面理顺产权关系、明确企业权责的前提下，为适应市场经济形势，建立现代企业制度，实行以资本为主要联结纽带的母子公司体制，形成规模效益，引导科技成果及时转化为生产力，于2000年12月以华中科技大产业集团有限公司为母公司，组建了华中科技大学产业集团。
华中科技大产业集团有限公司是以华中科技大学为主要投资者，旨在对全校经营性资产进行经营管理，投融资运作，促进科技成果产业化，实现校有经营性资产的保值、增值的企业法人，注册资本2.04亿元。
产业集团现有科技企业七十余家，截至2001年底，集团资产总额为15.9亿元，净资产10.86亿元。其中有若干企业在行业中处于技术领先地位，并形成一批效益良好的企业群。创立了“华工科技”、“华工高理”、“华工图像”、“华工激光”、“开目软件”、“华中数控”、“天喻信息”、“同济医药”等国内外知名品牌。我校科技产业已跨入了高速、稳步、规模发展的快车道。2001年实现销售收入5.1亿，实现利润8032万元。
今天，华中科技大学科技产业已形成校内建R&D中心、学校周边建孵化器、社会上办大学科技园的“三级跳”发展模式，确立并基本形成了创建高校技术创新体系的基本结构，为华中科技大学科技产业的腾飞奠定了良好的基础。产业集团将在“积极发展、规范管理”的方针指导下，继续引导科技产业集中优势、稳步发展，努力营造良好的激励科技人员创业的氛围和政策环境，推进高新技术成果产业化，不断促进以华中科技大学为主导的科技成果为国民经济服务，创造良好的社会效益和经济效益。
In december,2000, HUST High-tech Group was founded based on HUST Industry Group Co., Ltd. This reorganization means Huazhong University of Science & Technology (HUST) introduced modern enterprise system, completely clarified relevant property rights, valued scale utility, and attended to reinforce materialization of scientific studies.
HUST High-tech Group, the former HUST Technology Development General set up in 1992, was invested by HUST taking charge of commercial assets management, investment, and materialization of scientific studies of the whole school. As the only entity with responsibility for value maintenance and increment of the school’s commercial assets, HUST High-tech Group oversees ￥204 million now.
HUST High-tech Group has more than 70 subsidiaries with assets of ￥980 million, from which quite a few famous brands were derived including Huagong Tech, Huagong Gaoli Electronics, Huagong Image Technology, Huagong Laser Engineering, Kaimu Software, Tianyu Information, Huazhong Numerical Control,and Tongji Medicine. That is to say, high-tech industry of HUST has strode into the fast lane foreseeing a speedy and steady development.
Today, a peculiar developing model of HUST high-tech industry has come into being, viz., R&D center in the campus, incubator around the school and industry park supported by social resources, which basically formed the structure of college technological innovation and the foundation of HUST industry’s prosperity. Under the guideline of “active development and regular administration”, HUST High-tech Group will create an air of pioneering and an excellent policy environment to attract more intellectuals, and instruct HUST high-tech industry to make full use of advantages, to grow stably, to promote materialization of scientific studies, and finally to benefit the University and the whole society选自：中国校友会(http://www.cuaa.net)
